A PERFECT DAY AT THE PERFECT KRKA NATIONAL PARK

Krka National park is huge, covering more than 140 square kilometres. Two thirds of the park are the Krka river itself. The park is filled with various attractions. Skradinski Buk, the wonderful waterfall being one of them, is one of the most famous attractions in Croatia.
The best way to experience Krka is to go on a boat trip through the park. We like to recommend this since the trip is exceptional thanks to fantastic views it provides, like the Roški Slap waterfall, and most of all a visit to the small island of Visovac.

On Visovac, a small 14th century monastery still exists. Thanks to its isolated position, it was always a place of profound spirituality and refuge from the enemy. During the Turkish invasion in the 15th century, the island became inhabited by Franciscan monks who left a special mark here. Today, some remains of the 14th century monastery still exist.

One of our favourite exhibits is a small Our Father book. And when we say small, we mean really small – 3,5 x 3,5 millimetres small! This book was printed on the original Guttenberg press (!) in Mainz and was for a long time considered the smallest book in the world.
Among many exhibits visitors can see Sultan Mehmed IV ferman (imperial order), which guaranteed the Franciscan monks the ownership right to the monastery on Visovac as well as imperial protection. In 1687 pope Innocent XI sent an order that gives remission of sin to everybody who visits the Visovac monastery on August 2nd, during the feast of Our Lady of the Angels. All of the above show how special Visovac is. The spiritual magic of this desolated place is present right from the moment you reach the island.
Besides great nature and cultural and historical sights, Krka offers some nice swimming spots so make sure to bring your bathing suit. Nature, history and a nice swim - that sounds like quite a day.
